Comparison of the two processors

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and the Intel Core i5-13400F are relatively inexpensive desktop processors. Nevertheless, both processors are well suited for more demanding users or computer gamers. While the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X relies on eight CPU cores of the same size, the Intel Core i5-13400F has a hybrid core structure that combines large and fast P-cores with small and economical E-cores.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5700X uses 8 cores of the Zen 4 architecture from AMD, the base clock of the processor is 3.4 GHz. The clock frequency can be increased to up to 4.6 GHz using Turbo mode, provided the technical requirements such as CPU waste heat and CPU temperature allow.

The Intel Core i5-13400F uses 6 P-cores of the Raptor Cove architecture. These clock at 2.5 GHz (Turbo: 4.6 GHz). The smaller E-cores come from the Intel Atom processors “Gracemont”. These clock at 1.8 GHz (Turbo: 3.3 GHz), which is significantly lower.

Both processors support up to 128 GB of RAM in a maximum of 4 RAM modules and two memory channels (dual-channel operation). The AMD Ryzen 7 5700X still uses DDR4-3200 memory with a maximum of 51.2 GB/s, while the Intel Core i5-13400F supports DDR4 or the newer DDR5 memory, depending on the motherboard used. When using two DDR5-4800 memory modules, the maximum bandwidth is 76.8 GB/s.

The AMD processor can connect external devices such as a graphics card via PCIe 4.0; the Intel Core i5-13400F already supports the newer PCIe 5.0 standard, depending on the mainboard. However, this does not currently make any difference, as modern graphics cards only support PCIe 4.0 and hardly lose any performance even in PCIe 3.0 operation.

Both processors have a TDP of 65 watts, but consume a little more energy under load. The Intel processor in particular uses significantly more power at up to 140 watts.
