The AMD FX-8320, based on the Vishera architecture (Bulldozer) and manufactured using the 32-nm process, was designed by AMD for applications requiring a high core count and features eight cores.

Intel's Core i7-6700 (Skylake-S architecture, 14 nm) aimed for balanced performance for gaming and demanding tasks, with four cores and eight threads (Hyper-Threading). In single-core performance, the Intel Core i7-6700 significantly outperforms the AMD FX-8320.

The Intel Core i7-6700 also leads in multi-core performance, as its more efficient architecture and Hyper-Threading technology offer better overall performance. Both CPUs have 8 MB of Level-3 cache. The Intel Core i7-6700 also integrates Intel HD Graphics 530 and supports PCIe 3.0, while the AMD FX-8320 has no integrated graphics.

The memory bandwidth is 30 GB/s for the AMD FX-8320 and 34 GB/s for the Intel Core i7-6700. For gaming, the Intel Core i7-6700 is more advantageous due to its superior single-core performance, achieving higher frame rates. Thanks to the more modern 14-nm process, the Intel Core i7-6700 is also more energy-efficient and generates less heat than the AMD FX-8320.

Both processors are affordably available on the used market, with the Intel Core i7-6700 offering a better price/performance ratio for most use cases. The Intel Core i7-6700 is the superior choice for modern applications and games; the AMD FX-8320 is more suitable for very budget-conscious multi-threaded niche applications.
