Intel Core i3-6100U vs Intel Processor N150

Last updated:
The Intel Core i3-6100U, introduced in the third quarter of 2015, targeted entry-level notebooks and compact systems.

It is based on the Skylake U architecture and is manufactured using the 14 nm process. With 2 cores, 4 threads, and 3 MB of L3 cache, it offered solid single-core performance for its generation. Multi-core performance was sufficient for basic multitasking. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 enabled simple graphics output and very light gaming.

As a U-series processor, it was characterized by low power consumption. Its maximum memory bandwidth is 30 GB/s. The Intel Processor N150 is a more modern chip often found in current, efficient entry-level laptops and mini PCs.

It utilizes the Twin Lake architecture and is manufactured using the more advanced 7 nm process. This processor features 6 cores and 6 threads, with 4 MB of L2 cache and 6 MB of L3 cache. Its single-core performance is noticeably higher than that of the Intel Core i3-6100U, as is its multi-core performance, making it better suited for multitasking and more demanding applications.

The Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) offer improved graphics capabilities for media and casual gaming. It is designed for very low power consumption, with a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. In a direct comparison, the Intel Processor N150 offers higher efficiency and significantly better computing performance in single-core and multi-core applications, thanks to its newer 7 nm manufacturing and Twin Lake architecture.

The integrated graphics of the Intel Processor N150 also outperform those of the Intel Core i3-6100U in media playback and light gaming. The Intel Processor N150 also has larger cache sizes and higher memory bandwidth. Both are only marginally suitable for demanding gaming.

For current tasks, the Intel Processor N150 is the superior choice, offering better value for money and lower energy requirements.
