Intel Celeron N3150 vs Intel Celeron J1900

Last updated:
The Intel Celeron J1900 was introduced in the fourth quarter of 2013 and targeted the market for energy-efficient desktops, thin clients, and embedded systems.

It is based on the Bay Trail architecture and is manufactured using a 22 nm process. This processor features four cores and four threads. It is equipped with PCIe Version 2.0 and offers a maximum memory bandwidth of 21 GB/s. The L3 cache is 2 MB. In benchmarks, the Intel Celeron J1900 shows similar single-core and multi-core performance to the Intel Celeron N3150.

For gaming, the integrated Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail GT1) is only suitable for very simple, older titles or casual games. The Thermal Design Power (TDP) of the Intel Celeron J1900 is 10 watts, indicating moderate power consumption. It offered a cost-effective solution for basic computing tasks at launch and is now primarily found in older or used systems.

The Intel Celeron N3150 was launched in the first quarter of 2015 and aimed at similar application areas as its predecessor, including compact desktops, mini-PCs, and network storage. It belongs to the Braswell architecture and is manufactured using a more advanced 14 nm fabrication process.

This processor also features four cores and four threads. It supports PCIe Version 2.0 and achieves a maximum memory bandwidth of 26 GB/s, which is slightly higher than the Intel Celeron J1900. It also has 2 MB of L3 cache. The Intel Celeron N3150 offers similar single-core and multi-core performance to the Intel Celeron J1900 in synthetic benchmarks.

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 400 is primarily designed for media playback and basic graphical tasks, not for demanding games. With a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 6 watts, the Intel Celeron N3150 is even more energy-efficient than the Intel Celeron J1900, making it ideal for passively cooled systems.

It represented an evolution with better efficiency at a similar price segment for entry-level applications and is now also found in used systems or specialized devices.
