Apple A13 Bionic vs Apple M2

Last updated:
The Apple A13 Bionic was introduced in late 2019 for iPhones, optimized for mobile performance and efficiency.

The Apple M2, released in mid-2022, is an SoC for Macs, designed for demanding desktop and laptop tasks.

The A13 Bionic is manufactured using a 7nm process and has six cores (two performance, four efficiency). The M2 uses the more advanced 5nm process, has eight cores (four performance, four efficiency), and a larger 20 MB L2 cache compared to 8 MB for the A13. In terms of computing power, the Apple M2 significantly outperforms the A13 Bionic.

In single-core operation, it delivers over 50 percent more performance. For multi-core applications, the M2 is clearly superior with more than twice the performance. For gaming, the Apple M2 is the better choice. Its integrated Apple M2 (10 Core) graphics unit and three times higher memory bandwidth of 102 GB/s enable smoother frame rates and more detailed graphics.

The A13 Bionic is designed for maximum energy efficiency for mobile devices. The M2, also very efficient due to its 5nm manufacturing process, is designed for sustained peak performance in laptops and desktops. Both are tightly integrated into devices. The A13 Bionic is found in older, more affordable iPhones.

The M2 is part of current Mac products and offers a superior performance-to-price ratio for demanding applications. The A13 Bionic is ideal for basic mobile tasks and efficiency. The M2 is recommended for high demands on computing and graphics performance in laptops or desktops, also for professional applications and gaming.
