Apple A12X Bionic vs Apple M2

Last updated:
The Apple A12X Bionic, primarily introduced in late 2018 for powerful tablets, is based on a 7-nm manufacturing process.

It features an 8-core CPU, consisting of 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, supplemented by 8 MB of Level 2 cache and a maximum memory bandwidth of 68 GB/s. The integrated graphics unit is named Apple A12X. In terms of computing power, the A12X Bionic offers a solid foundation for everyday tasks, multitasking, and even more demanding creative work.

Its energy efficiency was leading at the time of its release but has since been surpassed by newer architectures. The Apple M2, introduced in mid-2022 for Mac computers and high-end iPads, utilizes a more advanced 5-nm process.

It also features an 8-core CPU, consisting of 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, but with a significantly larger 20 MB Level 2 cache and a higher memory bandwidth of 102 GB/s. Its integrated graphics unit is the Apple M2 (10 Core). The Apple M2 significantly outperforms the A12X Bionic in single- and multi-core performance, resulting in noticeably faster response times and shorter processing times.

It also offers significantly better performance for gaming and demanding graphics-intensive applications. Thanks to the 5-nm process, it exhibits improved energy efficiency, enabling longer battery life.
