Apple A10 Fusion vs Apple M4

Last updated:
The Apple A10 Fusion, introduced in 2016, was designed for everyday tasks in iPhones and iPads. It is based on a 10 nm manufacturing process and features four cores (two high-performance, two efficiency cores).

In contrast, the Apple M4 was introduced in 2024 for professional applications in the iPad Pro.

This chip is manufactured using an advanced 3 nm process and offers up to ten cores (four high-performance, six efficiency cores), enabling a significant increase in computing power. In performance benchmarks, the Apple M4 shows significantly higher single-core and multi-core performance compared to the Apple A10 Fusion.

This is due to its more modern architecture, higher core count, and improved manufacturing process. For gaming scenarios, the Apple M4 is clearly superior due to its more powerful integrated graphics unit (Apple M4 (10 Core)) and a maximum memory bandwidth of 120 GB/s, compared to the Apple A10 Fusion's 26 GB/s.

Both processors are optimized for mobile devices. The Apple A10 Fusion is known for its low power consumption. While the Apple M4 offers significantly higher performance, it maintains excellent energy efficiency thanks to the 3 nm process, though it consumes more power under full load. The Apple A10 Fusion is found in older, more affordable devices, while the Apple M4 is built into premium products and offers peak performance for professional users at a higher price.
