AMD Ryzen 7 5800U vs Apple M4

Last updated:
The AMD Ryzen 7 5800U, introduced in 2021, is a mobile processor based on the Cezanne architecture (Zen 3), manufactured using a 7nm process.

It is designed for thin and light notebooks and offers solid performance for everyday tasks with its integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 graphics unit and 16 MB L3 cache. Its maximum memory bandwidth is 34 GB/s. In comparison, the Apple M4, introduced in 2024, is a proprietary chip for Apple devices, manufactured using the advanced 3nm process based on the M4 architecture.

It integrates an Apple M4 (10 Core) graphics unit and features 20 MB L2 cache with a high memory bandwidth of 120 GB/s. According to internal benchmark data, the Apple M4 significantly outperforms the AMD Ryzen 7 5800U in Geekbench 6: single-core performance is over 100 percent higher, and multi-core performance is approximately 90 percent higher.

In Cinebench R23 multi-core tests, the M4 also shows over 40 percent higher performance. This significant performance difference continues in gaming scenarios, where the M4's stronger integrated graphics and faster memory connection offer advantages. The Apple M4 also benefits from its superior energy efficiency, realized with the 3nm process, which enables longer battery life.

The AMD Ryzen 7 5800U offers solid performance in the Windows ecosystem, while the Apple M4 delivers higher absolute performance and efficiency in Apple premium devices.
