AMD E2-3000 vs Raspberry Pi 4 B (Broadcom BCM2711)

Last updated:
The AMD E2-3000 is a processor based on the Llano (K10) architecture, typically used in older entry-level laptops and all-in-one PCs for basic office and web tasks.

Manufactured in 28 nm, it features two CPU cores with 1 MB of Level-3 cache and a maximum memory bandwidth of 13 GB/s. Its performance is designed for simple single-core and multi-core tasks. The integrated AMD Radeon HD 8280 graphics unit supports very light multimedia applications and older 2D games.

With a TDP of approximately 15 watts, it requires active cooling. It is no longer available as a standalone component; its value is tied to the price of used systems. Its strength lies in compatibility with the existing x86 software ecosystem. The Broadcom BCM2711 is the main processor of the Raspberry Pi 4 B, a single-board computer for education, IoT, and developers.

It is also manufactured in 28 nm but utilizes the more modern Cortex-A72 architecture with four CPU cores, 1 MB of Level-2 cache, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 13 GB/s. Its architecture delivers superior single-core and multi-core performance compared to older entry-level x86 processors. The integrated Broadcom VideoCore VI GPU enables 4K video decoding and good performance in emulators/retro games.

With very low power consumption (approx. 5-7 watts for the entire board), it is ideal for passive cooling. As part of the Raspberry Pi 4 B, it offers excellent value for its flexible application areas. The AMD E2-3000 is suitable for continued use in older x86 Windows systems. The Broadcom BCM2711 is the better choice for new projects requiring energy efficiency, compactness, and a modern architecture for Linux-based applications, media centers, or embedded systems.
