AMD A6-9220 vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The AMD A6-9220 (Stoney Ridge, codename: Excavator) was introduced in mid-2016 for affordable entry-level systems, optimized for basic computing tasks.

The Intel Processor N100 (Architecture: Alder Lake N) appeared in early 2023 and targets energy-efficient mini-PCs and thin clients for basic productivity.

The AMD A6-9220 is manufactured using a 28 nm process, with two cores/threads, 2 MB Level 3 Cache, and 17 GB/s memory bandwidth. The Intel Processor N100, on the other hand, uses a 10 nm process, offers four cores/threads, 4 MB Level 2 Cache, 6 MB Level 3 Cache, and 38 GB/s memory bandwidth.

The computing performance of the Intel Processor N100 significantly surpasses the AMD A6-9220 thanks to a newer architecture and more efficient manufacturing, both in single-core and multi-core tasks. Both processors are unsuitable for demanding games. The AMD A6-9220 integrates an AMD Radeon R4 (Stoney Ridge) graphics unit, while the Intel Processor N100 integrates an Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake).

The more modern graphics unit of the Intel Processor N100 offers noticeably better performance for very simple or older titles, thanks to higher memory bandwidth. Due to its 10 nm manufacturing process, the Intel Processor N100 is significantly more energy-efficient and has a lower power dissipation (TDP) than the AMD A6-9220 (28 nm).

The price-performance ratio of the Intel Processor N100 is better due to its superior performance and efficiency. It offers significantly higher performance in affordable systems than the AMD A6-9220. In summary, the Intel Processor N100 offers a more modern architecture, higher performance, and better energy efficiency.

The AMD A6-9220 is an older, very cost-effective option. For most basic applications, the Intel Processor N100 is clearly the better choice.
