Intel Xeon E3-1230 v6 vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Xeon E3-1230 v6, introduced in 2017 based on the Kaby Lake S architecture, targeted entry-level servers and workstations requiring reliability and performance.

The Intel Processor N100 is a newer processor from 2023 with Alder Lake N architecture, developed for energy-efficient, compact systems such as mini-PCs and thin clients.

The Intel Xeon E3-1230 v6 is manufactured using a 14 nm process and offers 4 cores and 8 threads, as well as 8 MB of L3 cache. Its single-core and multi-core performance is significantly higher due to Hyper-Threading and higher clock frequencies. The Intel Processor N100, on the other hand, is manufactured using a more efficient 10 nm process, features 4 cores and 4 threads, 4 MB of L2 and 6 MB of L3 cache.

Its performance is designed for energy efficiency. Both support PCIe 3.0 and offer a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. For gaming, the Intel Xeon E3-1230 v6 with a dedicated graphics card is the more powerful option. The Intel Processor N100 integrates Intel UHD Graphics with 24 Execution Units, which is sufficient for basic multimedia tasks and very light gaming.

The Intel Processor N100 is characterized by a very low Thermal Design Power (TDP) and thus low power consumption, ideal for fanless systems. The Intel Xeon E3-1230 v6 has a higher TDP, which requires more cooling, but enables its stronger performance. The Xeon is mainly found on the used market, while the N100 is built into new, affordable compact systems.
