Intel Core m3-8100Y vs Apple M1

Last updated:
The Intel Core m3-8100Y is based on the Amber Lake Y architecture and was designed for extremely portable, fanless devices.

With its 14-nanometer process, this processor primarily aims for low thermal load. It has two computing cores, which is sufficient for simple office applications and internet browsing. In benchmarks, the Intel Core m3-8100Y shows solid single-core performance but falls significantly behind the capabilities of the comparison model in multi-core requirements.

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 615 is intended for basic visual tasks but offers little capacity for gaming. The memory bandwidth of 30 GB/s limits data throughput in intensive processes. As a mobile solution, the focus is on minimal energy consumption and a low TDP for compact designs. The Apple M1 was developed for versatile applications in laptops and tablets and uses a 5-nanometer process.

This architecture integrates eight cores, resulting in a significantly higher computing capacity. In comparisons, the Apple M1 is more than ten percent ahead of the Intel model in both single-core and multi-core performance. The integrated Apple M1 (8 Core) graphics unit allows for smoother gaming, supported by a memory bandwidth of 68 GB/s.

Thanks to the efficient ARM structure, the chip offers high performance per watt. This processor is better suited for computationally intensive tasks due to its 16 MB L2 cache. While the Intel Core m3-8100Y is sufficient for simple mobile tasks, the Apple M1 offers a better price-performance ratio for demanding work.
