Intel Core i7-7700 vs Intel Processor N150

Last updated:
The Intel Core i7-7700, introduced in the first quarter of 2017, is based on the Kaby Lake S architecture and targeted the mainstream desktop market for productivity and occasional gaming.

It is manufactured using a 14 nm fabrication process and offers 4 cores and 8 threads thanks to Hyper-Threading. With 8 MB of Level 3 Cache, PCIe Version 3.0, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s, it delivers solid performance. The integrated graphics unit is the Intel HD Graphics 630. In benchmarks, the Intel Core i7-7700 shows comparable single-core performance to the Intel Processor N150, but noticeably surpasses it in multi-core performance.

For gaming, the Intel Core i7-7700 offers better performance thanks to its stronger core architecture and higher clock speeds. Its typical power consumption is higher than that of the Intel Processor N150. It is primarily available on the used market. The Intel Processor N150, introduced in the first quarter of 2023, is based on the Twin Lake architecture and is designed for energy-efficient, compact systems.

Manufactured in a 7 nm process, it features 4 cores and 4 threads. It has 4 MB of Level 2 Cache, 6 MB of Level 3 Cache, supports PCIe Version 3.0, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. The integrated graphics unit is the Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake). It shows comparable single-core performance to the Intel Core i7-7700 but lags in multi-core performance and is only conditionally suitable for gaming.

Its strength lies in very low power consumption and low TDP, ideal for fanless or quiet systems. It is usually offered as a soldered component in new, inexpensive systems. For more demanding applications, multitasking, and gaming, the Intel Core i7-7700 is the better choice. For basic tasks, media playback, or in systems where energy efficiency and low heat generation are top priorities, the Intel Processor N150 is recommended.
