Intel Core i7-6700K vs Intel Core i5-11600

Last updated:
The Intel Core i7-6700K was released in 2015 and was aimed at demanding users who wanted to use the Skylake S architecture.

Manufactured using the 14 nm process, this processor offers 4 cores and 8 threads as well as a Level 3 cache of 8 MB. In benchmarks, the model delivers consistent single-core performance, but falls behind modern solutions in multi-core performance. With PCIe 3.0 and a memory bandwidth of 34 GB/s as well as Intel HD Graphics 530, the hardware is designed for basic applications.

The TDP is 91 watts. In games, the processor achieves solid results, but reaches its limits with computationally intensive titles. It is primarily relevant for users who maintain existing systems, as the price-performance ratio is less favorable compared to newer generations. The Intel Core i5-11600 was released in 2021 for the mid-range segment and is based on the Rocket Lake S architecture.

Also manufactured in 14 nm, it has 6 cores and 12 threads. It offers 3 MB of Level 2 cache and 12 MB of Level 3 cache. In benchmarks, it significantly outperforms the older model in both single-core and multi-core performance. It is better suited for games thanks to higher IPC performance and support for PCIe 4.0.

With a TDP of 65 watts, it works more efficiently than the comparison model. The Intel UHD Graphics 750 and a memory bandwidth of 51 GB/s underline the more modern technology. It offers an advantageous price-performance ratio and is recommended for current computer configurations as it offers more reserves for multitasking.
