The Intel Core i7-6700, introduced in 2015, is based on the 14 nm Skylake S architecture and is designed for mainstream desktops.

It features 4 cores and 8 threads with 0 MB L2 cache and 8 MB L3 cache, supporting PCIe 3.0 and a maximum memory bandwidth of 34 GB/s. Its integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 supports basic graphical outputs. The Intel Processor N100, an Alder Lake N generation processor from 2023, is manufactured using the more modern 10 nm process and targets energy-efficient, compact systems.

It features 4 cores and 4 threads, 4 MB L2 cache, 6 MB L3 cache, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s over PCIe 3.0. Its integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) is designed for simple graphics applications. In single-core performance, the Intel Core i7-6700 shows higher performance in many benchmarks, although the Intel Processor N100 can achieve comparable or slightly better performance in some newer tests.

However, for multi-core applications, the Intel Core i7-6700 significantly outperforms the Intel Processor N100 due to its Hyper-Threading technology and core architecture. For gaming scenarios, the Intel Core i7-6700, with its more robust CPU and iGPU, is the better choice, especially with a dedicated graphics card.

The Intel Processor N100 is unsuitable for this purpose. A key difference is power consumption: the Intel Core i7-6700 has a higher TDP, while the Intel Processor N100 is extremely energy-efficient and suitable for fanless systems. In terms of price, the Intel Core i7-6700 can be found on the used market, while the Intel Processor N100 is usually found in new complete systems, where it offers good value for money in its niche.
