V-Ray CPU-Render Benchmark

V-Ray is a 3D rendering software from the manufacturer Chaos for designers and artists. Unlike many other render engines, V-Ray is capable of so-called hybrid rendering, in which the CPU and GPU work together at the same time.

However, the CPU benchmark we used (CPU Render Mode) only uses the system's processor. The working memory used plays a major role in the V-Ray benchmark. For our benchmarks we use the fastest RAM standard approved by the manufacturer (without overclocking).

Due to the high compatibility of V-Ray (including Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Unreal Engine and Blender), it is a frequently used software. With V-Ray, for example, photorealistic images can be rendered that laypeople cannot distinguish from normal photos.

VS Description of the processor

In the CPU comparison between the Intel Core i7-12700 and the Intel Core i7-12700K you can see how good the new Intel Alder Lake processors are. Nevertheless, you can also see that the Alder Lake processors are almost fully exhausted ex works and that an enormous amount of energy is required for additional CPU performance.

Both processors each have 12 CPU cores, which consist of a hybrid structure of 8 large "Golden Cove" cores and 4 smaller "Gracemont" CPU cores. The larger cores support Intel Hyperthreading Technology and can process two threads per core at the same time. Both processors therefore have a total of 20 threads.

While the Intel Core i7-12700 is specified with a TDP of 65 watts (180 W over a short period of time), the Intel Core i7-12700K can use up to 125 watts permanently, and even 190 watts are allowed for short periods. However, some mainboard manufacturers also grant the normal Intel Core i7-12700 more energy or allow increased energy consumption over a longer period of time.

Although the base clock frequencies of 2.1 GHz for the Intel Core i7-12700 compared to 3.6 GHz for the Intel Core i7-12700K look very high, it is only enough for the Intel Core i7-12700K to achieve a speed advantage of around 5 percent . However, since the Intel Core i7-12700K has a free multiplier, its clock frequency can be increased again at the expense of a further increase in energy consumption.

The processors support DDR5-4800 memory, but higher clock frequencies are also possible by overclocking the memory. A maximum of 128 GB of working memory is supported in two memory channels (dual channel).

Both the Intel Core i7-12700 and the Intel Core i7-12700K have 12 MB level 2 cache and 25 MB level 3 cache. External devices can be connected to the system via PCIe 5.0 with 20 PCIe lines.
