V-Ray CPU-Render Benchmark

V-Ray is a 3D rendering software from the manufacturer Chaos for designers and artists. Unlike many other render engines, V-Ray is capable of so-called hybrid rendering, in which the CPU and GPU work together at the same time.

However, the CPU benchmark we used (CPU Render Mode) only uses the system's processor. The working memory used plays a major role in the V-Ray benchmark. For our benchmarks we use the fastest RAM standard approved by the manufacturer (without overclocking).

Due to the high compatibility of V-Ray (including Autodesk 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Unreal Engine and Blender), it is a frequently used software. With V-Ray, for example, photorealistic images can be rendered that laypeople cannot distinguish from normal photos.

These two processors were released relatively quickly, in the second quarter of 2021. So the question here is which processor is the better choice, the 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor or the 4th Gen AMD Ryzen 7 processor?

Both models are processors from the mobile sector, so they are only used permanently soldered in devices such as notebooks. While the Intel Core i7-11800H is still manufactured using the 10nm manufacturing process, AMD is already manufacturing the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H in a 7nm structure width. Both manufacturers specify a TDP of 45 watts each.

Both processors have 8 cores and, thanks to Hyperthreading, 16 computing threads are available. The Intel Core i7-11800H has a base clock frequency of 2.30 gigahertz, which can increase to up to 4.60 gigahertz in turbo mode. The AMD Ryzen 7 5800H has a significantly higher basic clock frequency of 3.20 gigahertz, but clocks a little lower in turbo mode at up to 4.40 gigahertz.

In our benchmarks, the results are very close together, so you can say that the two processors have about the same performance. The only exception here is the integrated graphics unit.

The Intel Core i7-11800H uses the eleventh generation Intel UHD Graphics with 32 execution units and 256 shaders. This is manufactured using the 10-nanometer process and clocks at up to 1.45 gigahertz. The AMD Radeon 8 Graphics (Renoir) of the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H has 8 execution units with 512 shaders, is manufactured using the 7-nanometer process and clocks at a fixed clock rate of 1.75 gigahertz. The FP32 computing power with simpler Intel graphics is 742 GigaFLOPS, whereas the AMD graphics provide more than twice the performance with 1792 GigaFLOPS.

The Intel Core i7-11800H supports the operation of up to 128 gigabytes of DDR4-3200 RAM, while the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H can only operate 64 gigabytes of the same type.
