Intel Core i7-10700 vs Intel Xeon W-2125

Last updated:
The Intel Core i7-10700 was developed for the consumer market and was launched in 2020. It targets gamers and users looking for solid computing power for daily tasks and entertainment.

In comparison, the Intel Xeon W-2125 is a workstation CPU from 2017 designed for professional applications.

Both models are based on 14-nanometer manufacturing technology. The Intel Core i7-10700 uses the Comet Lake S architecture with eight cores and sixteen threads, while the Intel Xeon W-2125 is based on the Skylake W architecture and provides only four cores and eight threads.

This structural difference is reflected in the benchmarks, where the Intel Core i7-10700 is significantly ahead in both single-core performance and multi-core calculations. For gaming, the Intel Core i7-10700 is the better choice, as demanding titles benefit from the higher core count.

It also features integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630. The Intel Xeon W-2125 has no integrated graphics unit and requires a dedicated solution. In terms of power consumption, the Intel Core i7-10700 with a TDP of 65 watts is more efficient than the Intel Xeon W-2125, which has a TDP of 120 watts.

However, the latter offers a maximum memory bandwidth of 85 GB/s, which is almost twice as high as the 47 GB/s of the Core model. Both processors support the PCIe 3.0 standard and the Core i7 offers a larger Level 3 cache of 16 MB compared to the Xeon's 8 MB. In terms of price, the Intel Core i7-10700 is more attractive for most users.

It is recommended for gaming and productive desktop work, whereas the Intel Xeon W-2125 is primarily suitable for specific business systems with high data throughput.
