Intel Core i5-8600 vs Intel Core i7-7700

Last updated:
The Intel Core i7-7700 is based on the Kaby Lake S architecture and is manufactured using a 14-nanometer process.

At its release, it was aimed at demanding home users. The processor features four cores and eight threads, which gives it advantages in parallel tasks thanks to Hyper-Threading. In benchmarks, the Intel Core i7-7700 shows solid performance in single-core calculations, but falls behind the competition in multi-core performance.

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 handles graphical tasks, while the memory bandwidth is 38 GB/s and PCIe 3.0 is supported. With a TDP of 65 watts, the thermal load is moderate. In games, it provides a stable foundation, but benefits less from titles optimized for many physical cores. The Level 3 cache is 8 MB.

The Intel Core i5-8600 uses the Coffee Lake S architecture and is also manufactured using a 14-nanometer process.

This processor is aimed at users seeking high efficiency in games. Unlike the comparison model, the Intel Core i5-8600 offers six physical cores but lacks Hyper-Threading. It outperforms the Intel Core i7-7700 by more than ten percent in both single-core and multi-core performance.

This makes it superior in gaming scenarios since more physical resources are available. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 accesses a memory bandwidth of 43 GB/s and uses PCIe 3.0. With a TDP of 65 watts, the thermal design remains efficient. The price-performance ratio is favorable as it delivers higher computing power.

The Intel Core i5-8600 is recommended for compute-intensive applications and games.
