The Intel Core i5-6500, based on the Skylake S architecture, was introduced as a mainstream desktop processor.

It is manufactured using a 14 nm fabrication process and offers four cores and four threads. With 6 MB of L3 cache, PCIe 3.0, and a maximum memory bandwidth of 34 GB/s, it is designed for basic to medium-heavy tasks. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 enables everyday applications. In single-core and multi-core performance, it lags significantly behind the Intel Core i5-10400F.

Its performance is limited for modern gaming scenarios. Its Thermal Design Power (TDP) is comparable, but its price-performance ratio for current requirements is low. It is suitable as a cost-effective option on the used market. The Intel Core i5-10400F uses the newer Comet Lake S architecture and is also manufactured in 14 nm.

It is a younger mainstream desktop processor with six cores and twelve threads. This offers a larger 12 MB L3 cache, also PCIe 3.0, and a higher maximum memory bandwidth of 43 GB/s. As an "F" model, it requires a dedicated graphics card. In single-core and multi-core performance, it significantly outperforms the Intel Core i5-6500, making it advantageous for multitasking and demanding applications.

For gaming scenarios, it is the superior choice thanks to a higher core count and threads. Its TDP is comparable, but its price-performance ratio is significantly better for current requirements.
