The AMD FX-6300 (Vishera architecture, Bulldozer), introduced in late 2012 using a 32nm process, is a 6-core/6-thread processor for budget-conscious users.

It offers PCIe 3.0, 30 GB/s memory bandwidth, and 8 MB of Level 3 Cache. Its single-core performance is lower, but its multi-core performance was solid for its time. It tends to have higher power consumption. The Intel Core i5-6400 (Skylake S architecture), released in mid-2015 using a 14nm process, is a 4-core/4-thread processor for the mainstream market.

It supports PCIe 3.0, 34 GB/s memory bandwidth, 6 MB of Level 3 Cache, and integrated Intel HD Graphics 530. It significantly outperforms the AMD FX-6300 in both single-core and multi-core performance and is more energy-efficient. In a direct comparison, the Intel Core i5-6400, thanks to its modern architecture, offers significantly higher performance in all applications, especially in gaming, where superior single-core performance is crucial.

Its efficiency is also better. Although the AMD FX-6300 once represented a more affordable option for multi-core tasks, the Intel Core i5-6400 today offers the superior package overall. It is the better choice for most use cases.
