Intel Core i5-6300U vs Intel Processor N150

Last updated:
The Intel Core i5-6300U was launched in the third quarter of 2015. It is a processor for mobile devices, designed for efficiency and low power consumption in notebooks and ultrabooks.

It targeted the mainstream market for everyday computing tasks. It is based on the Skylake U architecture and is manufactured using a 14 nm process. This processor features 2 cores and 4 threads, as well as 3 MB of Level 3 Cache. Its single-core performance is lower compared to the Intel Processor N150.

It also shows significantly lower performance in multi-core applications. With its integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 and a memory bandwidth of 30 GB/s, this processor is not designed for demanding games. It is only suitable for very simple or older titles. The typical TDP of the Intel Core i5-6300U is 15 watts, which makes it ideal for mobile use.

As it is an older model, it is mainly found today in used or refurbished systems. The Intel Processor N150 is a significantly newer processor, introduced in 2023. It targets the entry-level and efficiency market for laptops, mini-PCs, and Chromebooks, where low power consumption and sufficient performance for basic tasks are paramount.

It is based on the Twin Lake architecture and is manufactured using a more advanced 7 nm process. This processor features 2 cores and 2 threads. It offers 4 MB of Level 2 Cache and 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. Compared to the Intel Core i5-6300U, the Intel Processor N150 delivers significantly better performance in both single-core and multi-core applications.

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics with 24 EUs (Alder Lake) and a memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s offer a slight improvement over the Intel HD Graphics 520, but remain insufficient for modern games. It is sufficient for simple multimedia applications and very light games. With a typical TDP of only 6.5 watts, the Intel Processor N150 is extremely energy-efficient and ideal for fanless designs and long battery life.

As a new entry-level model, the Intel Processor N150 offers good value for money for current devices in the budget segment. In summary, due to its newer architecture and significantly better performance, the Intel Processor N150 represents the more modern and efficient choice for everyday tasks, while the Intel Core i5-6300U is only relevant in older systems.
