Intel Core i5-12400F vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Core i5-12400F was released in 2022 and is based on the Alder Lake S architecture. It is primarily aimed at gamers as well as home users.

Manufactured in a 10 nm process, this processor features six performance cores and twelve threads. In synthetic benchmarks, the model shows significantly higher single-core and multi-core performance compared to its counterpart. Due to the higher clock frequencies, the 18 MB Level 3 cache, and support for PCIe 5.0, the Intel Core i5-12400F is very well suited for gaming scenarios.

Since it does not have an integrated graphics unit, the use of a dedicated graphics card is mandatory. The maximum memory bandwidth is 77 GB/s. With a Thermal Design Power of 65 watts, it offers solid efficiency for mid-range desktop systems. The Intel Processor N100 was launched in 2023 and uses the Alder Lake N architecture.

It is designed for economical mini-PCs or office computers. It is also manufactured in a 10 nm process, but only has four cores without hyperthreading. In benchmarks, the computing performance under both single-core and multi-core loads is significantly below that of the comparison model. This processor is hardly suitable for modern games, as the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) is only designed for basic graphical tasks.

One advantage is the low Thermal Design Power of 6 watts, which often allows for passive cooling. With 38 GB/s memory bandwidth and 6 MB Level 3 cache, it is a practical solution for minimal energy consumption. In summary, the Intel Core i5-12400F is recommended for demanding applications and games, while the Intel Processor N100 is the ideal choice for energy-saving office systems.
