Intel Core i5-10400F vs Intel Core i5-2500

Last updated:
The Intel Core i5-10400F is based on the Comet Lake S architecture and was developed for price-conscious users in the mid-range segment.

Manufactured using the 14 nm process, this processor offers six cores and twelve threads. In synthetic comparisons, the Intel Core i5-10400F shows significantly higher computing power in both single-core and multi-core loads. Especially in games, the model benefits from the higher core count and support for Hyper-Threading, which enables a more stable frame rate.

The processor uses PCIe 3.0 and offers a memory bandwidth of 43 GB/s and 12 MB L3 cache. With a Thermal Design Power of 65 watts, it operates efficiently. Since there is no integrated graphics core, the Intel Core i5-10400F offers an advantageous price-performance ratio for users who use a dedicated graphics card.

The Intel Core i5-2500 from the Sandy Bridge S generation was aimed at a wide audience. It is manufactured using the 32 nm process and has four cores without multithreading.

The technical features include 6 MB L3 cache and support for PCIe 2.0. In benchmarks, the computing power is significantly below that of the Intel Core i5-10400F, which is due to the architecture and lower efficiency. The Intel Core i5-2500 features Intel HD Graphics 2000, making it usable for simple office tasks without an additional card.

With a TDP of 95 watts, the power consumption is higher while the computing power is lower. While the equipment is sufficient for basic applications, the structure limits it in demanding scenarios. The Intel Core i5-2500 is primarily suitable for simple tasks in legacy systems.
