Intel Core i3-8100 vs Intel Processor N95

The Intel Core i3-8100 (Coffee Lake S architecture) was introduced in late 2017 for mainstream desktops.

The Intel Processor N95 (Alder Lake N architecture), released in early 2023, is designed for energy-efficient, compact systems.

The Intel Core i3-8100 is manufactured in 14 nm, has 4 cores and 4 threads, 0 MB of Level 2 cache, and 6 MB of Level 3 cache. The Intel Processor N95, produced in 10 nm, also has 4 cores and 4 threads, 4 MB of Level 2 cache, and 6 MB of Level 3 cache. Both support PCIe 3.0 with a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s.

In single-core benchmarks (Cinebench R23, Geekbench 6), the Intel Core i3-8100 shows higher performance. On the multi-core side, the Intel Core i3-8100 noticeably outperforms the Intel Processor N95 in Geekbench 6; in Cinebench R23, the values are comparable. The Intel Processor N95 has results for the newer Cinebench 2024, which is not the case for the Intel Core i3-8100.

Neither processor is suitable for modern gaming. The Intel Core i3-8100 uses Intel UHD Graphics 630, while the Intel Processor N95 uses Intel UHD Graphics 16 EUs (Alder Lake). Both offer minimal support for very simple titles. The Intel Core i3-8100 has a higher Thermal Design Power (TDP) and requires active cooling.

The Intel Processor N95 is optimized for extremely low power consumption, ideal for fanless mini-PCs and energy-efficient systems. The Intel Core i3-8100 is older and primarily available used. The Intel Processor N95 is found in new, affordable mini-PCs and offers good value for money for basic tasks where energy efficiency is crucial.

The Intel Core i3-8100 is recommended for established desktop tasks and upgrades of older platforms. The Intel Processor N95 is ideal for compact, quiet office, web, and media playback systems.
