Intel Core i3-7100U vs Intel Processor N95

Last updated:
The Intel Core i3-7100U, an older mobile processor from the Kaby Lake U architecture, was designed for energy-efficient laptops.

Manufactured using the 14 nm process, it features 2 cores, 4 threads, and 3 MB of Level 3 Cache. Its integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 and 30 GB/s memory bandwidth are suitable for very basic tasks. The Intel Processor N95 is a newer processor from the Alder Lake N family, developed for power-efficient thin clients and mini-PCs.

Manufactured using the more modern 10 nm process, it offers 4 cores, 4 threads, 4 MB of Level 2 Cache, and 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. Its integrated Intel UHD Graphics 16 EUs (Alder Lake) and 38 GB/s memory bandwidth are more powerful. In terms of computing performance, the Intel Processor N95 significantly outperforms the Intel Core i3-7100U, both in single-core and multi-core tasks.

Unsuitable for demanding games, the N95 offers marginally better performance in very simple titles thanks to its newer graphics unit and higher memory bandwidth. Both are energy-efficient with low Thermal Design Power (TDP). The N95 benefits from its 10 nm manufacturing process for improved efficiency at higher performance.

The i3-7100U is an older model for used systems; the N95 offers good value for money in new entry-level systems. For basic office work, the Intel Core i3-7100U is sufficient in existing devices. For new purchases and everyday tasks, the Intel Processor N95 is the clearly better choice, thanks to its superior architecture, performance, and efficiency.
