Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 vs Intel Processor U300

The Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650, with the architecture codename Yorkfield (Penryn), was introduced in the third quarter of 2008 and targeted the upper mainstream desktop market of its time.

It offered computing power for demanding applications and multitasking. The Intel Processor U300, under the architecture codename Raptor Lake U, is a chip released in 2023, primarily designed for energy-efficient mobile devices such as laptops, covering the entry-level segment.

The Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 is manufactured using a 45 nm fabrication process and features four physical cores and four threads. It utilizes a 12 MB Level 2 Cache and its maximum memory bandwidth is 17 GB/s. The Intel Processor U300 is a product of a significantly more modern manufacturing technology, produced at 10 nm.

It features a hybrid architecture with one Performance-core and four Efficiency-cores (five cores, six threads). It has 10 MB of Level 3 Cache and offers a significantly higher maximum memory bandwidth of 83 GB/s. The single-core performance of the Intel Processor U300 significantly surpasses the older Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650, due to its more advanced architecture and higher per-clock performance.

In multi-core performance, the Intel Processor U300 also shows superior performance. Despite the different core configuration, the U300 can handle more complex tasks faster thanks to its modern design. In gaming scenarios, the Intel Processor U300, with its integrated Intel UHD Graphics 13th Gen (48 EU) and better single-core performance, offers a significantly superior experience.

The Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 has no integrated graphics unit and is also severely limited by its weak single-core performance even with a dedicated graphics card.
