Intel Celeron J4125 vs Intel Celeron N4000

Last updated:
The Intel Celeron N4000 (Gemini Lake architecture, 2017) is designed for energy-efficient, mobile devices such as notebooks and Chromebooks that require basic performance for simple tasks.

The Intel Celeron J4125 (Gemini Lake architecture, 2019) is aimed at mini-PCs, NAS systems, and embedded solutions that require slightly higher performance in stationary environments.

Both were manufactured by Intel. Both processors are manufactured using the 14nm process. They share a 4 MB Level 3 cache and offer a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. The integrated graphics unit for both is the Intel UHD Graphics 600, which handles basic multimedia tasks. The Intel Celeron J4125 additionally supports PCIe Version 2.0 for expansion cards.

The Intel Celeron J4125 shows significantly higher performance than the Intel Celeron N4000 in single-core benchmarks. This superiority continues in multi-core scenarios, where the Intel Celeron J4125 delivers considerably stronger performance. This makes the Intel Celeron J4125 better suited for more demanding basic tasks and multitasking.

Neither the Intel Celeron N4000 nor the Intel Celeron J4125 are designed for modern gaming. Their Intel UHD Graphics 600 is only sufficient for very simple or older casual games. The graphics unit is the limiting factor, even if the Intel Celeron J4125 might offer marginal advantages due to its higher CPU performance.

The Intel Celeron N4000 is optimized for maximum energy efficiency, ideal for battery-powered devices and long battery life. The Intel Celeron J4125 also has low power consumption but is designed for compact, stationary systems that are often passively cooled. Both offer an entry-level price-performance ratio.

The Intel Celeron J4125 delivers significantly higher computing power, making it a more attractive option for performance requirements at a small additional cost, while the Intel Celeron N4000 provides basic functionality in the most affordable mobile devices. The Intel Celeron N4000 impresses with extreme energy efficiency for ultraportable devices and basic tasks.

The Intel Celeron J4125 offers noticeably improved overall performance for light desktop tasks or media centers, also with low power consumption. For mobile, simple use, the Intel Celeron N4000 is ideal. For stationary systems with slightly higher performance requirements, the Intel Celeron J4125 is the superior choice.
