Intel Atom Z2420 vs Intel Core i5-12400

In synthetic tests, the model shows high efficiency in single-core and multi-core performance, making it predestined for demanding applications. With a memory bandwidth of 77 GB/s and support for PCIe 5.0, it offers a long-term foundation.

Equipped with 8 MB L2 and 18 MB L3 cache, the processor impresses in gaming scenarios through its architecture and high clock speeds. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 730 is sufficient for basic graphics requirements. At a TDP of 65 watts, the heat generation remains moderate. The price-performance ratio is balanced.

For desktop tasks and games, this processor is the recommended choice. The Intel Atom Z2420 belongs to the Penwell architecture and was primarily designed for simple mobile devices.

It is manufactured in a 32 nm process and has a single core with two threads through Hyper-Threading. The computing power is very low compared to desktop solutions, as the focus was on minimal energy consumption. With a memory bandwidth of only 6 GB/s, 1 MB L2 cache, and no L3 cache, the operating speed is severely limited.

For games, the integrated PowerVR SGX540 graphics unit is not designed. The energy requirement is extremely low, allowing for passive cooling. This processor hardly plays a role in the market anymore, as its technical features are no longer sufficient for complex software requirements. It is only suitable for extremely economical, specialized legacy systems.
