Apple M2 vs AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D

Last updated:
The Apple M2 is a system-on-a-chip primarily developed for users in the private and semi-professional sectors.

Manufactured using a 5 nm process, this processor integrates CPU, graphics, and memory in a very small space. The architecture does without a traditional Level 3 cache, but offers a Level 2 cache of 20 MB and a memory bandwidth of 102 GB/s. In benchmarks, the Apple M2 shows solid single-core performance, but falls significantly behind high-end competitors in multi-core calculations.

The integrated Apple M2 (10 Core) graphics unit is suitable for everyday graphics tasks, but does not achieve top values in demanding games. A major advantage lies in its high energy efficiency, which leads to low heat generation. Since the processor is permanently installed, the price-performance ratio depends on the respective overall system of the manufacturer.

The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D is based on the Granite Ridge architecture and targets enthusiasts as well as professional users.

With 4 nm manufacturing and PCIe 5.0, this processor offers modern interfaces. The special feature lies in the 128 MB Level 3 cache and a memory bandwidth of 90 GB/s, where the 3D V-Cache technology significantly increases gaming performance. In synthetic tests, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D outperforms the Apple M2 by more than ten percent in both single-core and multi-core performance.

Due to the high performance class, the power consumption is higher than that of the competitor, which requires an appropriate cooling solution. While the Apple M2 is ideal for users looking for a quiet, efficient computer, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D with integrated AMD Radeon Graphics (Raphael) is recommended for maximum computing loads and gaming.
