Apple M1 Pro (10-CPU 16-GPU) vs Apple M1 Max (32-GPU)

Last updated:
The Apple M1 Pro (10-CPU 16-GPU) was developed in late 2021 for professional users who require high computing power in mobile workstations.

Manufactured using the 5-nm process, this processor uses Apple's M1 architecture and offers 10 CPU cores. With an L2 cache of 28 MB, it delivers efficient data processing. In benchmarks, the chip shows strong single-core and multi-core performance, which is almost identical to the larger model. Since the differences are under ten percent, the CPU performance can be considered equivalent.

The integrated Apple M1 Pro (16-core) graphics unit and a memory bandwidth of 102 GB/s enable smooth workflow in image editing. The thermal design is trimmed for efficiency, resulting in moderate power consumption. For users looking for a balance between cost and computing power, this processor offers an attractive solution.

The Apple M1 Max (32-GPU) was released in late 2021 and is aimed at users with high demands for graphics performance and data throughput.

Like the Pro model, it is based on the M1 architecture and is manufactured using the 5-nm process. Despite the same number of 10 CPU cores and an identical L2 cache of 28 MB, it differs in its graphics and memory interface. With the Apple M1 Max (32-core) graphics unit and a memory bandwidth of 410 GB/s, the chip offers very good AI performance.

In gaming scenarios and rendering, it is superior to the Pro model because the graphics resources have been doubled. Power consumption is higher during intensive use but remains efficient. Due to its price, this processor is recommended for specialized tasks such as video editing or AI applications where the enormous bandwidth is fully utilized.
