The Apple M1, introduced in late 2020, is a 5 nm System-on-a-Chip for the Apple ecosystem, primarily for energy-efficient desktops and laptops.

It integrates eight cores (four high-performance, four high-efficiency) and an Apple M1 (8 Core) GPU. With PCIe 4.0 and 68 GB/s memory bandwidth, as well as 16 MB Level 2 Cache, it offers good single-core performance and efficient multi-core performance for everyday and creative applications.

Its strength lies in its outstanding energy efficiency and deep software-hardware integration. The Intel Core i7-13700K, available from late 2022, is a 10 nm desktop processor (Raptor Lake S) for demanding gaming and creative applications.

It features 16 cores (eight performance, eight efficiency cores) and 24 threads, with an Intel UHD Graphics 770. Supported by PCIe 5.0 and 90 GB/s memory bandwidth, complemented by 24 MB Level 2 Cache and 30 MB Level 3 Cache, it delivers significantly higher single- and multi-core performance than the Apple M1.

In gaming scenarios, the Intel Core i7-13700K, especially with a dedicated graphics card, offers superior performance and broader game compatibility under Windows. The Apple M1 is good for integrated systems but not on the level of a high-end gaming PC. Regarding energy efficiency, the Apple M1 is significantly more economical, while the Intel Core i7-13700K requires more energy for its maximum performance and demands more robust cooling.

The M1's price-performance ratio should be seen in the context of the Apple ecosystem, while the i7-13700K offers high flexibility and raw performance for DIY systems.
