Apple M1 vs Apple M5 (10-CPU)

Last updated:
The Apple M1, introduced in 2020, targets mainstream users seeking a balanced combination of performance and energy efficiency for everyday tasks.

It is manufactured using a 5 nm process and integrates an 8-core CPU and an Apple M1 (8 Core) graphics unit. Its maximum memory bandwidth is 68 GB/s with 16 MB of L2 cache. The M1 offers solid single- and multi-core performance for common applications and is known for its high energy efficiency.

For gaming, the integrated GPU delivers passable performance in less demanding titles. The Apple M1's price-performance ratio is well-established in the market. The Apple M5 (10-CPU) is a future processor aiming for significantly higher performance, manufactured using a more advanced 3 nm process.

It features a 10-core CPU and a more powerful Apple M5 (10 Core) graphics unit. With a maximum memory bandwidth of 154 GB/s and 28 MB of L2 cache, the M5 considerably surpasses the M1. In benchmarks, the Apple M5 (10-CPU) shows substantially higher single- and multi-core performance (over 10 percent in each case).

Its architecture promises excellent performance per watt. For demanding gaming, the stronger 10-core GPU offers a much better experience. As a new product, its market prices are expected to be in the premium segment.
