The Apple M1, introduced in 2020, is an SoC for Macs and iPads with balanced performance and high energy efficiency.

It is manufactured using the 5nm process with "M1" architecture. The Apple A18 is a more advanced processor for newer iPhones, optimized for maximum mobile performance, manufactured using the 3nm process with "Donan" architecture.

Both utilize a Big.LITTLE core structure. In benchmarks, the Apple A18 surpasses the Apple M1 in single-core performance by over 10 percent. Multi-core performance is comparable for both (differences under 10 percent). The Apple M1 integrates an Apple M1 (8 Core) graphics (68 GB/s memory bandwidth).

The Apple A18 uses an Apple A18 (5 GPU Cores) graphics (60 GB/s). The A18's newer architecture often leads to better graphics performance in mobile games. Both are very energy efficient. The M1 is designed for laptops and desktops. The A18, designed for mobile devices, offers superior efficiency and lower heat generation thanks to 3nm manufacturing, which is crucial for battery life.

A direct price evaluation is not possible because the processors are firmly integrated into Apple devices (M1 in MacBooks/iPads, A18 in iPhones). In summary, the Apple M1 offers a strong balance for productive desktop and laptop applications. The Apple A18, thanks to its superior single-core performance and extreme energy efficiency, is the first choice for demanding mobile applications and maximum performance in smartphones.
