Apple A15 Bionic (4-GPU) vs Raspberry Pi 5 B (Broadcom BCM2712)

Last updated:
The Apple A15 Bionic (4-GPU), introduced in 2021, is primarily designed for high-performance mobile devices, offering excellent computing and graphics performance.

Manufactured by Apple using a 5 nm process, it features six CPU cores (two high-performance, four efficiency cores) and four Apple A15 (4 GPU Cores) graphics cores. With 16 MB Level 2 and 32 MB Level 3 cache, along with 34 GB/s memory bandwidth, it demonstrates superior single-core and multi-core performance.

It enables a superior gaming experience and is extremely energy-efficient thanks to its 5 nm process, ideal for passively cooled systems. It is not available as a standalone component. The Raspberry Pi 5 B (Broadcom BCM2712), launched in 2023, is the heart of the Raspberry Pi 5 B single-board computer, targeting hobbyists, education, and development.

Broadcom manufactures this chip using a 16 nm process with four Cortex-A76 cores, 2 MB Level 2 and 2 MB Level 3 cache, 17 GB/s memory bandwidth, and a PCIe 2.0 interface. Its performance is solid for its class but is more suited for retro gaming. As part of the Raspberry Pi 5 B, it is very cost-effective (60-80 Euros) and offers excellent value for money.

Under load, it often requires active cooling. For maximum raw power, graphics performance, and highest energy efficiency, the Apple A15 Bionic (4-GPU) is the better choice. For flexible, cost-effective projects with an open platform and broad community support, the Raspberry Pi 5 B (Broadcom BCM2712) is preferable.
