AMD A6-5200 vs AMD G-T48E

Last updated:
The AMD A6-5200, based on the Kabini architecture (Jaguar), was designed for energy-efficient desktop and all-in-one systems with improved baseline performance.

It is manufactured using the 28 nm process and offers 4 cores and 4 threads. The Jaguar architecture ensures more efficient processing. Thanks to its newer architecture and more cores, the AMD A6-5200 delivers significantly higher computing performance for single- and multi-core applications.

The integrated AMD Radeon HD 8400 enables rudimentary gaming experiences in very old titles but is insufficient for modern games. The AMD A6-5200 typically has a TDP of 25 watts, and its maximum memory bandwidth is 26 GB/s. It is hardly available new; its original price-performance ratio was solid, and used systems are very inexpensive today.

The AMD A6-5200 is the better choice for users who need a bit more computing power for everyday tasks with good energy efficiency. The AMD G-T48E (Ontario, Bobcat architecture) targeted the embedded market, where low power consumption is crucial for basic tasks.

This processor is manufactured using the 40 nm process and offers 2 cores and 2 threads. The Bobcat architecture focuses on maximum energy efficiency. Its performance is sufficient for very basic tasks. Compared to the AMD A6-5200, it shows lower computing performance due to its older architecture and fewer cores.

With the AMD Radeon HD 6250, the AMD G-T48E is not suitable for gaming. The graphics performance is only sufficient for user interfaces and simple multimedia. Its very low TDP of typically 9 watts is ideal for fanless designs. The maximum memory bandwidth is 9 GB/s. As an older model for embedded systems, it is no longer available new; its value lay in its low power consumption.

For applications with extremely low power consumption and passive cooling, such as in thin clients, the AMD G-T48E is the superior option.
