The Intel Core i7-3960X was a remarkable processor for demanding users in its time. As a model of the Extreme series, it was aimed at enthusiasts. Its suitability for gaming, in particular, set it apart. The underlying Sandy Bridge E architecture was state-of-the-art at the time. It offered solid computing power for a variety of tasks.

This chip was manufactured using the then-advanced 32 nm process. This allowed for a good balance of performance and efficiency. A particularly noteworthy feature was the generous Level 3 Cache of 15 MB. This large cache ensured fast data access. As a result, the overall system responsiveness was noticeably improved.

We were surprised how robust this architecture proved to be. The processor supported a maximum memory bandwidth of 51 GB/s. The connection via PCIe 2.0 was also standard for its time. The Intel Core i7-3960X remains an interesting example of earlier high-performance processors. It can continue to provide its services in specialized setups.
