Intel Processor N150 vs Intel Core i5-4690

Last updated:
The Intel Core i5-4690, based on the Haswell S architecture, was manufactured in 2014 using a 22 nm process and targeted the mainstream desktop market.

It supports PCIe 3.0, offers an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 with 26 GB/s maximum memory bandwidth, and has 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. The Intel Processor N150, part of the newer Twin Lake architecture, is designed for energy-efficient, compact systems.

Manufactured using a more advanced 7 nm process, it also supports PCIe 3.0. Its integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) achieves 38 GB/s maximum memory bandwidth and has 4 MB of Level 2 as well as 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. In terms of performance, there are no significant differences in single-core tasks.

For multi-core applications, the Intel Core i5-4690 shows noticeably higher performance in certain scenarios. The Intel Processor N150 is compatible with modern benchmarks like Cinebench 2024, which underscores its more current architecture. For gaming, the Intel Core i5-4690 offers a better CPU foundation, especially with a dedicated graphics card.

Its integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 is very basic. The Intel Processor N150 with its Intel UHD Graphics is more energy-efficient but not designed for demanding gaming. Thanks to the 7 nm manufacturing process, the Intel Processor N150 is significantly more energy-efficient than the 22 nm Intel Core i5-4690, making it ideal for fanless systems.

A direct price-performance comparison is difficult, as the i5-4690 is a used market product, while the N150 is often an integral part of mini-PCs. The Intel Core i5-4690 is suitable for basic desktop tasks. The Intel Processor N150 is optimal for applications requiring high energy efficiency and a compact design.
