Intel Processor N100 vs MediaTek MT8183

Last updated:
The Intel Processor N100 (Alder Lake N) is designed for energy-efficient entry-level devices. The older MediaTek MT8183 (Cortex-A73/-A53) is found in cost-effective Chromebooks and tablets for basic tasks.

The Intel N100 is manufactured using a 10 nm process, with four cores, 4 MB L2, and 6 MB L3 cache. The MediaTek MT8183 uses 12 nm and a Big.LITTLE architecture with eight cores, but without L2 or L3 cache. In terms of performance, the Intel N100 significantly outperforms the MediaTek MT8183 in single- and multi-core applications, leading to noticeably better responsiveness.

For gaming, both are only suitable for very simple titles. The Intel UHD Graphics (24 EUs) of the N100 offers better graphics performance with 38 GB/s memory bandwidth than the ARM Mali-G72 MP3 of the MT8183 with 19 GB/s. Both CPUs are energy-efficient. The Intel N100 is characterized by very low power consumption.

The MediaTek MT8183 is efficient for mobile devices, but less efficient per unit of performance. The Intel N100 offers a more compelling price-performance ratio. Its higher performance with low power requirements makes it the better choice. The MT8183 is a more cost-effective but weaker alternative.

The Intel N100 delivers higher computing and graphics performance for productivity and media consumption. The MediaTek MT8183 is a cost-effective option for the most basic tasks. For versatility and responsiveness, the Intel N100 is recommended.
