Intel Processor N100 vs Intel Pentium Silver J5005

Last updated:
The Intel Pentium Silver J5005, based on the Gemini Lake architecture, was primarily designed for entry-level desktops and mini-PCs.

It offers a cost-effective solution for basic computing applications. It is manufactured using the 14 nm process and features four cores and four threads. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 605 graphics unit supports everyday visual tasks. With a TDP of 10 watts, it is suitable for fanless or passively cooled systems.

Connectivity is via PCIe 2.0, and the processor uses a 4 MB L3 cache. Its performance is sufficient for web browsing, word processing, and media playback. The Intel Processor N100 utilizes the more modern Alder Lake N architecture and is primarily intended for energy-efficient mini-PCs and affordable laptops.

It is manufactured using the more advanced 10 nm process and also offers four cores and four threads. Compared to the Intel Pentium Silver J5005, the Intel Processor N100 shows significantly higher single-core and multi-core performance. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics with 24 Execution Units (EUs) provides improved graphics performance for everyday applications and light multimedia tasks.

With a very low TDP of 6 watts, it is extremely energy-efficient and ideal for systems designed for low power consumption. It supports PCIe 3.0 and features a 4 MB L2 cache and a 6 MB L3 cache, which contributes to better overall performance. In terms of computing performance, the Intel Processor N100 significantly surpasses the Intel Pentium Silver J5005 in almost all aspects.

The newer architecture and smaller manufacturing process enable higher performance with lower energy consumption. Even in gaming scenarios, which are limited to very simple and older titles for both processors, the Intel Processor N100 offers slightly better performance thanks to its more modern integrated graphics unit.

Regarding energy efficiency, the Intel Processor N100, with its TDP of 6 watts, clearly has an advantage over the 10 watts of the Intel Pentium Silver J5005. The price-performance ratio of the Intel Processor N100 is generally better due to its superior performance and efficiency, although the Intel Pentium Silver J5005 might be found cheaper in older systems.

For new purchases or systems requiring better responsiveness and energy efficiency, the Intel Processor N100 is the superior choice.
