Intel Processor N100 vs Intel Pentium G4600

Last updated:
The Intel Pentium G4600, based on the Kaby Lake S architecture, was introduced in the first quarter of 2017 and targeted the market of inexpensive desktop PCs for office and everyday tasks.

Manufactured using the 14 nm process, it features 2 cores and 4 threads with 3 MB of Level 3 cache. Its integrated Intel HD Graphics 630 is suitable for undemanding games. In single-core tests, it offers solid performance for basic applications. For multi-core tasks, it is limited by its core count.

With a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 54 watts, it requires active cooling. It supports PCIe 3.0 and offers a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. The Intel Processor N100, based on the Alder Lake N architecture, was launched in the first quarter of 2023 and targets energy-efficient systems like mini-PCs.

Manufactured using the modern 10 nm process (Intel 7), it offers 4 efficient cores and 4 threads, with 4 MB of Level 2 cache and 6 MB of Level 3 cache. In single-core and multi-core tests, the Intel Processor N100 delivers significantly higher performance than the Intel Pentium G4600.

Its integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) is more efficient. A key feature is the extremely low Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 6 watts, which enables fanless designs. It supports PCIe 3.0 and offers a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. In summary, the Intel Pentium G4600 is an older processor for basic desktop tasks, offering solid performance for simple applications but having higher power consumption.

The Intel Processor N100, on the other hand, is a modern, extremely energy-efficient processor that, despite its low power consumption, offers better overall performance in single- and multi-core applications and an improved integrated graphics solution. For use cases requiring a cost-effective basis for older desktop systems where power consumption is secondary, the Intel Pentium G4600 may still be sufficient.

For new systems designed for energy efficiency, compact design, and better performance for everyday tasks with low power consumption, the Intel Processor N100 is clearly the superior choice.
