The Intel Core i3-9100, based on the Coffee Lake S Refresh architecture, was introduced as a desktop mainstream processor.

It is manufactured using a 14 nm process, has 4 cores and 4 threads, 6 MB of Level 3 cache, and uses PCIe 3.0. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 supports basic graphics output. The Intel Processor N100, a newer chip with the Alder Lake N architecture, is designed for energy-efficient, compact systems.

It is manufactured using a more modern 10 nm process, also features 4 cores and 4 threads, 4 MB of Level 2 and 6 MB of Level 3 cache, and PCIe 3.0. Its graphics unit is the Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake). Both have a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. In terms of performance, the Intel Core i3-9100 significantly outperforms the Intel Processor N100 in both single-core and multi-core tasks.

Its higher clock speed and performance-optimized cores provide noticeably better computing power for general applications and lighter productivity. For gaming, both processors are only conditionally suitable; however, the Intel Core i3-9100 offers a better foundation with its stronger CPU performance, especially when a separate graphics card is used.

The main difference lies in power consumption and thermal design power (TDP). The Intel Core i3-9100 has a higher TDP and therefore requires more robust cooling. The Intel Processor N100, on the other hand, is extremely energy-efficient with a very low TDP, making it ideal for fanless or very compact, quiet systems.

In terms of price, the older Intel Core i3-9100 is often found used or in existing systems, while the Intel Processor N100 is installed in new, cost-effective mini-PCs and offers excellent value for money for its intended use.
