Intel Processor N100 vs AMD GX-222GC

Last updated:
The Intel Processor N100, based on the Alder Lake N architecture, is designed for energy-efficient entry-level desktops and mini-PCs.

It enables basic computing tasks and media playback with a modern user experience. The AMD GX-222GC is an older embedded processor with the Temash (Jaguar+) architecture, targeting extremely low-power, fanless applications in industrial settings and thin clients, where minimal processing power and low costs are paramount.

The Intel Processor N100 is manufactured using an advanced 10 nm fabrication process and features 4 MB of Level 2 Cache and 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. The AMD GX-222GC uses an older 28 nm process and offers 1 MB of Level 2 Cache without Level 3 Cache. In all relevant benchmarks, the Intel Processor N100 significantly outperforms the AMD GX-222GC in both single-core and multi-core performance.

This clear superiority results from the newer architecture and more efficient manufacturing process of the Intel processor. For gaming scenarios, the Intel Processor N100, with its integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake), offers basic capabilities for very light games and media playback.

Its maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s and PCIe 3.0 support this. The AMD Radeon R2E graphics unit of the AMD GX-222GC is not designed for gaming; its performance is very limited, with 13 GB/s memory bandwidth and PCIe 2.0, sufficient only for display output and the simplest graphical tasks.

Both processors are designed for low power consumption. The Intel Processor N100 achieves this through its 10 nm process and modern architecture, enabling good performance with low power draw. The AMD GX-222GC is also optimized for extreme energy efficiency, but with significantly lower processing power.

The price-performance ratio of the Intel Processor N100 is advantageous for modern entry-level systems. The AMD GX-222GC is primarily used in very cost-effective embedded solutions with minimal performance requirements. In summary, the Intel Processor N100 is the better choice for users looking for a responsive system for everyday tasks, office applications, and media consumption.

The AMD GX-222GC is only suitable for very specialized, older embedded applications where absolute costs and minimal power consumption are critical, and performance requirements are extremely low.
