Intel Pentium Silver J5040 vs Intel Celeron J4125

The Intel Pentium Silver J5040 and the Intel Celeron J4125 are Intel desktop processors based on the Gemini Lake architecture, designed for energy-efficient mini-PCs.

Both are manufactured using the 14 nm process and feature four cores, four threads, 4 MB of Level 3 Cache, and PCIe Version 2.0. In terms of computing performance, the Intel Pentium Silver J5040 and the Intel Celeron J4125 show very similar results in single-core performance.

In multi-core benchmarks like Cinebench R23, the Intel Pentium Silver J5040 shows a performance increase of over 10 percent. In Geekbench 6, however, the multi-core results are comparable. Both processors are only very limitedly suitable for gaming. The Intel Pentium Silver J5040 uses Intel UHD Graphics 605, while the Intel Celeron J4125 uses Intel UHD Graphics 600.

The UHD Graphics 605 offers marginally higher performance, which is insufficient for modern games. The memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s limits the graphics performance. Both models are characterized by a low Thermal Design Power (TDP) of typically 10 watts, enabling low power consumption and passive cooling.

Without current market prices, an exact price-performance analysis is difficult. The Intel Pentium Silver J5040 is the better choice for slightly higher computing and graphics performance. The Intel Celeron J4125 offers a solid basis for basic tasks in price-conscious systems where small performance differences are acceptable.
