Intel Pentium J4205 vs Intel Processor N95

Last updated:
The Intel Pentium J4205, introduced in the fourth quarter of 2016, is an energy-efficient processor for basic desktop systems and embedded applications.

Based on the Apollo Lake architecture and manufactured using the 14 nm process, it features 4 cores and 4 threads. Its performance is sufficient for simple office tasks, web browsing, and very basic multimedia tasks. The integrated graphics unit, Intel HD Graphics 505, offers very limited performance for gaming.

The processor uses PCIe 2.0, has a maximum memory bandwidth of 30 GB/s, and 2 MB of Level 3 Cache. Its low energy consumption is a key feature for cost-effective systems. The Intel Processor N95, a newer processor based on the Alder Lake N architecture, is manufactured using the more advanced 10 nm process.

It is designed for compact PCs and mini-PCs and offers significantly improved performance with high energy efficiency. This processor has 4 cores and 4 threads, based on modern Gracemont E-Cores. With 4 MB of Level 2 Cache and 6 MB of Level 3 Cache, it is better equipped. The integrated graphics unit, Intel UHD Graphics 16 EUs (Alder Lake), offers significantly higher performance, enabling light gaming and emulation.

It supports PCIe 3.0 and achieves a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s, which underscores its superior computing and graphics performance for modern requirements. In direct comparisons, the Intel Processor N95 significantly surpasses the Intel Pentium J4205 in single-core and multi-core performance, as well as graphics performance.

The N95 also offers higher performance per watt and a better price-performance ratio for most modern applications. The J4205 remains an option for extremely simple, cost-effective use cases, while the Intel Processor N95 is the more recommended choice for a more balanced performance spectrum.
