The Intel Core i7-860, codenamed Lynnfield, was introduced in the third quarter of 2009 and targeted the mainstream desktop market.

It was manufactured using a 45 nm process and featured 4 cores and 8 threads, supported by Hyper-Threading. Its Level-2 cache was 1 MB and Level-3 cache was 8 MB. This processor supported PCIe 2.0 and achieved a maximum memory bandwidth of 17 GB/s. Although it offered solid computing performance for its time, its architecture is now considered obsolete, and it lacks an integrated graphics unit, requiring a separate graphics card.

Its single-core and multi-core performance is significantly below modern processors. The Intel Processor N100, introduced in the first quarter of 2023, is based on the modern Alder Lake N architecture and is manufactured using an energy-efficient 10 nm process.

It is primarily designed for compact systems such as mini-PCs, thin clients, and embedded solutions. This processor features 4 cores and 4 threads and integrates an Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) graphics unit. With 4 MB of Level-2 cache and 6 MB of Level-3 cache, along with support for PCIe 3.0, it offers a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s.

Its single-core and multi-core performance significantly surpasses the Intel Core i7-860 and is characterized by high energy efficiency. In single-core performance, the Intel Processor N100 shows significantly higher performance than the Intel Core i7-860, which is due to substantial architectural advancements.

In multi-core performance too, the Intel Processor N100 clearly surpasses the Intel Core i7-860. This makes the Intel Processor N100 clearly superior for modern applications that benefit from efficient core performance. Neither of the two processors is primarily designed for gaming scenarios.

The Intel Core i7-860 lacks an integrated graphics solution and requires a separate graphics card, with its older PCIe 2.0 interface and low CPU performance severely limiting the use of modern games. The Intel Processor N100, with its integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake), offers basic graphics performance sufficient for very light games or media playback, but not for demanding gaming experiences.
