Intel Core i7-6700T vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Core i7-6700T, introduced in the third quarter of 2015 with Skylake-S architecture, targeted compact, energy-efficient systems.

The Intel Processor N100, released in the first quarter of 2023, uses the Alder Lake-N architecture for entry-level and ultra-low-power systems such as mini-PCs and thin clients.

The Intel Core i7-6700T is manufactured using a 14nm process, features 4 cores and 8 threads, and 8 MB of L3 cache. The Intel Processor N100 is produced using the more modern 10nm process, has 4 cores, 4 threads, 4 MB of L2 cache, and 6 MB of L3 cache. In benchmarks like Cinebench R23, the Intel Core i7-6700T offers a significant advantage over the Intel Processor N100 in both single-core and multi-core performance.

This indicates higher computing power for more demanding applications, even though the Intel Core i7-6700T has the older architecture. For gaming, both processors are only very limitedly usable. The Intel Core i7-6700T integrates Intel HD Graphics 530, while the Intel Processor N100 includes the newer Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake).

Both offer only basic graphics capabilities for older or very undemanding games and are not designed for modern gaming. The maximum memory bandwidth for both CPUs is insufficient for dedicated gaming requirements. A main difference is power consumption. The Intel Core i7-6700T has a TDP of 35W. The Intel Processor N100 stands out with an extremely low TDP of just 6W, making it ideal for fanless or energy-efficient systems.

The Intel Core i7-6700T is an older model whose price-performance ratio varies on the used market. The newer Intel Processor N100 is often found in very affordable systems and offers a very good price-performance ratio for its target group, especially due to its energy efficiency.

Recommendation: For applications requiring higher computing power where energy consumption plays a minor role, the Intel Core i7-6700T is the better choice. For maximum energy efficiency, compact design, and basic tasks, the Intel Processor N100 is preferable.

Intel Core i7-6700T

  • Higher CPU performance in single- and multi-core applications.
  • Suitable for general office tasks and lighter productivity.
  • Older architecture with 35W TDP.

Intel Processor N100

  • Extremely low power consumption of 6W TDP.
  • Modern architecture for high efficiency.
  • Ideal for basic tasks and fanless systems.
