Intel Core i7-5820K vs Intel Processor N100

Last updated:
The Intel Core i7-5820K, introduced in the third quarter of 2014 as a high-end processor for enthusiasts and workstations, is based on the Haswell E architecture and is manufactured using a 22 nm process.

It offers 6 cores and 12 threads, as well as 15 MB of Level 3 Cache, and supports PCIe 3.0 with a maximum memory bandwidth of 68 GB/s. The Intel Processor N100, on the other hand, is a younger processor from the first quarter of 2023, designed for energy-efficient, compact systems.

It uses the modern Alder Lake N architecture, is manufactured using a 10 nm process, and has 4 cores and 4 threads. It features 4 MB of Level 2 and 6 MB of Level 3 Cache, also supports PCIe 3.0, and achieves a maximum memory bandwidth of 38 GB/s. In single-core performance, the Intel Processor N100 shows a slight advantage thanks to its newer architecture, while the Intel Core i7-5820K is significantly superior in multi-core applications due to its higher core and thread count.

For gaming, the Intel Core i7-5820K offers higher computing power, but requires a dedicated graphics card, as it does not have an integrated graphics unit itself. The Intel Processor N100, on the other hand, features an Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake), which is sufficient for basic applications and very undemanding games.

The Intel Core i7-5820K has a significantly higher Thermal Design Power (TDP), which entails higher power consumption and more robust cooling. The Intel Processor N100 is designed for extremely low power consumption. Regarding price-performance ratio, the Intel Core i7-5820K is primarily found on the used market today, while the Intel Processor N100 is available as a cost-effective new component in systems for basic tasks.

The Intel Core i7-5820K is ideal for compute-intensive tasks and demanding gaming (with a dedicated GPU). The Intel Processor N100 is excellently suited for energy-efficient home office PCs, media centers, or compact IoT solutions.
