Intel Core i7-4790K vs Intel Processor N100

The Intel Core i7-4790K, architecture name Devils Canyon S, was introduced in 2014 for high-performance desktops.

Manufactured in 22 nm, it offers 4 cores and 8 threads with 8 MB L3 cache. It supports PCIe 3.0 and achieves 26 GB/s memory bandwidth. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 is present. In most single- and multi-core tests, this processor shows noticeably higher computing performance than the Intel Processor N100, although newer single-core benchmarks show similar results.

Its TDP is 88W. For gaming with a dedicated graphics card and CPU-intensive tasks, it is the more powerful option, albeit with higher power consumption and only available used. The Intel Processor N100, based on the Alder Lake N architecture, is a newer, energy-efficient processor for compact systems.

It is manufactured in 10 nm and integrates 4 cores and 4 threads with 4 MB L2 cache and 6 MB L3 cache. It supports PCIe 3.0 and achieves 38 GB/s memory bandwidth. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 24 EUs (Alder Lake) is efficient. Its multi-core performance is lower than that of the Intel Core i7-4790K, while single-core tests in newer applications are comparable.

With an extremely low TDP of 6W, it is ideal for fanless systems, basic tasks, and media playback, but does not offer high gaming performance. It is new to the market and is characterized by good value for money for its target group.
