Intel Core i7-4790 vs Intel Core i5-4690

The Thermal Design Power (TDP) is comparable to the i5 model.

On the used market, it is usually more expensive. The Intel Core i5-4690 is also an Intel Haswell S desktop processor, manufactured using the 22 nm process, aimed at mainstream users.

It is equipped with 4 cores and 4 threads, as well as 6 MB of Level 3 Cache. It also supports PCIe Version 3.0 and a maximum memory bandwidth of 26 GB/s, including the Intel HD Graphics 4600. Its single-core performance is very good for everyday applications and gaming, and in tests like Geekbench 6 Single-Core, it is almost identical to that of the i7 model.

In multi-core applications, especially in the Geekbench 6 test, its performance is lower than the Intel Core i7-4790 due to the lack of Hyper-Threading. In gaming scenarios, the Intel Core i5-4690 delivers solid performance, with differences from the i7 model often being marginal.

The TDP is comparable. On the used market, it is often the more cost-effective choice and offers good value for money.
